Foulcard wins Jeanerette mayor's race; New Iberia tax approved

April Foulcard is Jeanerette's new mayor. Foulcard, the former alderman at large, defeated alderman Kenneth Kern with 64% of the vote.

Christa "Tia" Simmons defeated Leo Lee to replace Foulcard as alderman at large. Simmons claimed 51% of the vote, beating Lee by the count of 914-872.

G. Butch Bourgeois is Jeanerette's new Ward 3 alderman. He beat Willie Ward with 70% of the vote. Bougeois will fill the seat vacated earlier this year by Sandy Derise, who resigned from the post.

Voters in the parish approved a measure that would allow the school board to issue bonds to fund facilities, technology, and security. The item passed with 74% of the vote.

New Iberia residents approved a citywide four-mill property tax to pay the city's debt. It passed with 65% of the vote.
