SEATTLE (AP) - Food banks are known for providing a helping hand to those who need it. But these days, those community pantries are getting a helping hand from technology. Food banks are taking
advantage of things like databases, bar coding, GPS tracking and automated warehouses as they share their bounty with others. The use of such technology makes it possible for more food banks to
track down and keep tabs on their goods. And it also means people in areas that have food banks that use technology are probably able to get more of the kinds of foods they like. But food bank
directors also note it's an indication that hunger has become a huge and, it seems, unending problem.
