Heavy rains and strong storms will be likely for Acadiana with rain potential possibly exceeding 3-5" area-wide...and there may be some isolated spots that may see double that amount.
The National Weather Service issued a Flash Flood Watch for all of Acadiana through Friday evening.
An unusually strong upper level disturbance combined with deep tropical moisture will manifest in the form of heavy showers and storms that will be capable of producing 2-3" of rain per hour...and there may be the opportunity for several hours of these rainfall rates from the early morning hours into the afternoon.
KATC's RPM FutureCast model consistently has been indicating 24 hour rainfall totals in the 4-8" range which is not unrealistic given the atmospheric moisture and instability.
