The first annual Patty in the Parc kicked off at 5:00 p.m. Thursday night to celebrate Saint Patrick's Day in downtown Lafayette.
Organizers said they expect at least 2,000 people to come out to Parc International for the Irish holiday. There was a lot green, from shirts to hats and of course green beer.
"I think it's a very important holiday, it is something the Irish celebrate and in addition to the Irish the French Canadians, everyone down here just loves to have a party. So as long as the cajuns are here, as long as there's beer flowing, there will be a St. Patty's day party if we have anything to do about it," said organizer John O'Meara with Theater League of Lafayette.
Three bands also performing live and food vendors set up through out the park. Patty in the Parc goes until 10:00 p.m., tickets are $15 at the door, free for children 12 and under.
