First 2014 Baby of Lafayette, A "Miracle" For Her Parents

The New Year is all about new beginnings, but that is especially true for one new family. 7lb 11oz. Isabelle Kate Delahoussaye was born at 1:15 a.m. New Year's Day. The first baby born in Lafayette for 2014. Having Isabelle was something her parents Dustin and Kristen, waited years to experience.

"We had actually been trying for 3 years and ended up using fertility treatments to get pregnant. So, it had been a long time coming, but right before she came it was like oh man this is really happening," Kristen Delahoussaye said.

For them, the struggle to get to this point makes the moment that much more special.
In an ironic twist, Isabelle's mother, Kristen, was actually the first baby born on Christmas Day in Lafayette, back in 1985. She was also born at Women's and Children's Hospital and, to cap it all off, was delivered by the exact same doctor as her daughter.

"Just the fact that they were both born on a holiday, what are the odds?! I don't know. It makes for a lot of great stories. Like her (Kristen's) story and now hers, it'll be a fun thing to look back on and tell people about," new father Dustin Delahoussaye said.

It's quite the family affair moving into this new year, overcoming adversity and rewarded with a new bundle of joy.

"It just makes us know that you never give up and even though you get discouraged about anything, you just have to keep trying because in the end she's here. She's our miracle and we wouldn't change a second of the journey," Kristen said.
