Lafayette, LA -Festival International de Louisiane is pleased to announce the Official 2013 Cloisonné Pin and Poster are available now at www.festivalinternationalcom. The Festival Pin and Poster were unveiled at Festival's annual Pin Premiere party held January 24, 2013 Parc International in Downtown Lafayette.
In addition to showcasing the 2013 Pin and Poster, the pin premiere also serves as the official unveiling of the Festival artwork created by 2013 Official Visual Artist Fred Daspit. This year's artwork entitled "Passion in Blue" is a collection of sculptures created by Daspit for this year's Festival
Born in St. Martinville, La, Daspit earned his B.A. in Art Education from the University of Southwestern Louisiana and his Masters Degree in Fine Arts from Louisiana State University. After completing his studies, he continued advanced studies at Colorado State University, University of Northern Illinois and through study and travel tours in Austria, England, Amsterdam, Paris France, Venice and Florence Italy. A retired professor of Art and Architecture at UL Lafayette. Daspit taught Louisiana Architecture a course he developed and introduced to the UL Architecture curriculum. As a sculptor, Daspit's unique works invoke imagery of ancient cultures captured in beautiful wood pieces that incorporate carefully placed artistic elements making each of his works a unique mixed media work of art. In addition to being a sought after artist, Daspit is a published author having published three books on Louisiana's unique architecture. His work has been exhibited at the Paul and Lulu Hilliard University Art Museum, Gallery 549 and most recently the Abbeville Alliance Center Museum and Art Gallery.
Monica Hebert, Board President of Festival International says, "This is a collection of 3 magnanimous pieces that work in unison to encompass all of what Festival embodies. Fred Daspit's fascination with different cultures is easily distinguishable in these pieces and reminds us of how Festival strives to bring the world to Acadiana each year. It is a way of reflecting the past and reaching for the future."
The 2013 pin and poster were created by BBR Creative, the official Advertising Agency of Festival International de Louisiane. With the official artwork as a basis, BBR Creative designed a distinctive poster that captures all three pieces of art on paper that is as unique as Daspit's artwork. Printed locally by Tristar Graphics group, each poster features a raised embossed stamp adding a rich texture to the poster and tying it back in to this year's official artwork. The 2013 cloisonné pin which has become a collector's item among Festival fans, also draws inspiration from the official artwork with some changes in color giving the pin a fun, festive feel while showcasing the detail in cloisonné that Festival pin collectors have become familiar with.
Festival enthusiasts and art collectors will have the opportunity to purchase the Official Artwork at the organization's Art Auction later this spring.
