Tracking the Tropics

Fernand Inland-Showers Today

Tropical Storm Fernand made landfall early this morning and will continue to weaken along the coast of Mexico near Veracruz.  Later today the storm is expected to be downgraded to a tropical depression.  Fernand is expected to bring 4-8 inches of rain with life threatening flash flooding and mudslides as the system moves into the mountains of central Mexico.

A tropical wave that is drifting westward along the Texas Gulf coast will continue to bring widespread rains over the offshore waters today.  Farther inland over much of Acadiana, cloudy skies will remain with scattered showers and a few thunderstorms.  Temperatures will hold near 90 with a decent breeze from the east.  High pressure will build over the area for the rest of the week, and mainly dry conditions are expected through the Labor Day weekend.
