A bear that's been roaming around Iberia Parish since Saturday has been caught. According to officials with Wildlife and Fisheries, the older female bear wandered more than two miles since first being spotted over the weekend. Last night she was captured by deputies in a tree off Coon Road. Wildlife and Fisheries agents were able to tranquilize her, then after she recovered, they released her in her home range in St. Mary Parish on the coast. The bear was approximately 150 pounds and had not caused anyone any harm.
New Iberia resident Brody Champagne spotted the bear after returning home last night. Champagne said the bear climbed a tree before wildlife agents tranquilized it. The bear then fell onto a safety mat before agents released it into the wild.
