Fatal Lafayette Shooting Involves Two Brothers

A Lafayette shooting ends with one man dead. Officials said his hospitalized brother is responsible.
The shooting happened last night at a residence on Bernice Ave. in Bendel Gardens.

Lafayette resident Sherry Thomas said, "never ever expected anything like this is in this neighborhood."

Thomas grew up on Bernice Avenue. She never thought she'd walk out her front door and be looking at a murder scene.

"Nobody really knew them," she said. "They were just very reclusive and I don't think they talked to a lot of the neighbors at all."

Sixty-one year old Micheal Granstaff lived across the street His next door neighbor heard gun shots around 6:30 Thursday night and called 911.

Corporal Paul Mouton with the Lafayette Police Department, said "when they arrived, they found one man dead and another man bleeding from the leg. He was immediately brought to the hospital and the other subject was pronounced dead on the scene."

Micheal died from multiple gun shot wounds. Officials said there didn't appear to be any type of struggle between the two brothers.

"Some kind of disturbance occurred. We are still trying to figure out exactly what the disturbance was about," Mouton said. "When it did occur, it escalated to the point to where Danny armed himself with a handgun and fired multiple shots at his brother."

Thomas said, "when someone is that distraught, you don't know what's going on inside their mind."

Danny Granstaff is hospitalized in stable condition. He's under constant watch by Lafayette Police officers. Once he's released from the hospital, officials say they will book him on second degree murder.
