The Cajuns welcomed home Sunday afternoon as champions and KATC was the only TV station there as they returned home.
Die hard Cajun fans packed the UL Athletic Complex in Lafayette with banners and pom-poms to welcome home the 2011 R & L Carriers New Orleans Bowl Champions.
"The city and the university definitely needed this win," said Erin Butler.
A win for the football team that hasn't completely sunken in yet, "Feels awesome. It was an exciting win, just glad to be back and actually enjoy it," said one football player.
The final moments of the game though had fans on their feet and holding their breath, praying the Ragin' Cajuns would capture that elusive "W".
"Pass interference wasn't called twice in a row so that was kind of un-nerving and when the game is left up to the kicker to win, all the pressure that is on him and the rest of the team," said Butler.
Fans are quite excited and they are actually comparing this win to the Superbowl, and some even saying this is actually bigger than when the Saints won just a few years ago.
"It is just as exciting, if not more. we love our Cajuns and we were really excited," said Mrs. Claus, who flew all the way from the North Pole to watch the Cajuns game.
With the changes that took place this season, fans are hoping "the juice" will continue to flow into next season.
"With this new coaching staff it should. I think that was the problem all along, the coaching. We always had the talent, it just wasn't developed like it should have been. I think next year will be like this and we may do even better than we did," said Butler.
A storybook ending to an incredible season and Cajun Nation electrified and already looking forward to next year.
