Today, the victim of a fatal shooting on Hilda Street was identified as 20-year-old Jordan Melancon, of Lafayette. Jordan leaves behind two children; an 18-month and 4-month old child.
Courtney Gothe, who is the mother of one of Melancon children says, "I was shocked, he doesn't do anybody anything. He was just living his life, thats all he was doing..."
While the pain is still fresh for the family, members say they don't want any more blood to be shed over what happened. They simply want scenes like what happened in their neighborhood to stop.
"I just feel like it has to stop now, not tomorrow, it don't need to stop in five hours... it has to stop right now," says Gothe.
Erinesha Melancon, a cousin to Jordan says "he was a nice loving, cared about all the children in the neighborhood type of guy. He would have given his last ya know."
Lafayette police have arrested Jacob Ardoin in connection with Jordan Melancon's murder. Ardoin is charged with second-degree murder. Investigators say Ardoin shot and killed 20-year-old Jordan Melancon during a disturbance in the 400 block of Hilda Street Monday evening.
Police have not released any new information, but say the investigation is ongoing.
