A Lawtell family of six escaped a house fire Sunday night with nothing but their lives. Denise Ned grew up in the home on Courville Lane and was now raising her four daughters and taking care of her 35-year-old brother there. The home and everything inside was a total loss.
"In shock, pretty much shock, terror, everything you would think you would feel when this happens, I felt it," said Ned.
She said they heard a loud boom around 10:40 Sunday night. Their only car, an older Ford Expedition in the garage, was on fire. The flames quickly spread to the rest of the house.
"We just got out the house as best we can, I'm just thankful that we are all safe," said Ned.
Ned and her family escaped through the front door just minutes before it was engulfed in flames. They were lucky to make it out alive, but the fire left nothing else behind.
"Everything is gone, every single thing from uniforms, socks, underwear, just the basic necessities you take for granted, we lost it all in like two minutes," she said.
But they still have each other, and that she said, is the most important thing.
"For me to still have them, I'm so thankful, that's pretty much it," Ned said through tears.
Ned's daughters are ages 17, 15, 13, & 10 and are all in need of school uniforms, backpacks and regular clothing. Ned has a Paypal account and can be reached by email at email@example.com or by phone: 337-831-7435.
