A former New Orleans court employee has pleaded guilty to a charge she accepted payoffs from an unlicensed bail bondsman.
Lear Enclarde faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine following her guilty plea Monday to conspiring to commit honest services mail fraud.
The 68-year-old New Orleans resident worked at the Orleans Parish Criminal Clerk's Office from 1973 through 2010. Federal prosecutors say Enclarde took cash from an unlicensed bail bondsman in exchange for letting that person use the name and forge the signature of a licensed bondsman on court documents.
Her sentencing is set for Sept. 17.
