Evangeline board extends superintendent's contract

VILLE PLATTE, La. (AP) - The Evangeline Parish School Board has shown its appreciation to Superintendent Toni Hamlin by unanimously approving a two-year extension of her contract, which was due to expire in December.

Ville Platte Mayor Jennifer Vidrine said she wanted to publicly thank Hamlin, the board and the Central Office staff for their "hard work" in the renovation of Ville Platte High School and for achieving unitary status from the federal courts.

The Advocate reports the board has spent approximately $6 million in renovating Ville Platte High as part of its desegregation plan to the federal court and the U.S. Justice Department.

The federal court last week granted unitary status after 47 years of oversight.

Hamlin thanked the board for the vote of confidence.
