The office manager of a Shreveport cardiology center has been sentenced to more than three years in prison for bank fraud.
U.S. District Judge Elizabeth E. Foote sentenced 40-year-old Vongphanet J. "Joe" Siharath, of Bossier City, to 41 months in prison with five years of supervised release. He also was ordered to pay $1.05 million in restitution.
U.S. Attorney Stephanie A. Finley's office says Siharath admitted to forging signatures of doctors associated with the medical practice of Cardiology Associates where he worked from Jan. 22, 2008 to July 25, 2012.
Authorities say he forged about 48 checks and purchased one cashier's check, with a total loss of $1,057,949 to the center. The forged checks were made payable to various payees. Siharath controlled each account the money was deposited into.
