Employee arrested in Rendezvous Dinner Club arson

An employee of the Rendezvous Dinner Club is behind bars and charged with the arson of the iconic Evangeline Parish restaurant.

The State Fire Marshal's Office says 22-year-old Eric Johnson was arrested at his home just before midnight Saturday night and charged in connection with the July 21 blaze. He is being held in the Evangeline Parish Jail on $200,000 bond.

According to Deputy Marshal Brant Thompson, Johnson was the restaurant's operations manager and a close confidant to restaurant owner John Deville. Thompson would not say whether Deville is a suspect in the arson.

Thompson says the investigation is ongoing and that more arrests are pending.
