The East Feliciana Parish School Board has voted to issue $750,000 in bonds to pay for heating and air conditioning control systems at the parish's high school and middle school.
Bond attorney David Henderson told the board Tuesday the 10-year bonds will be repaid from the proceeds of a 3.34-mill property tax the state constitution authorizes the board to collect.
The cash-strapped board has been struggling in recent years to repair the heating and cooling systems at its largest buildings and replaced "chillers" in the units several years ago.
Maintenance Supervisor James Bell the staff has made some adjustments to the systems to make them operate more efficiently, but new controls will finish the job.
