Drug Bust Leads to Arrest in Opelousas

The first significant arrest in light of the recent violence attributed to illegal drugs was made last night by the Opelousas Police Department. Police say last night, a team of officers specificially designed to high crime areas approached a vehicle on Truman Street. Officers say they found over $500 in cash, Hydro-Marijuana, 32 ounces of Promethazine Codeine Syrup concealed in a 32 ounce Gatorade bottle in Antonio Rideau, Junior's vehicle.

Police say the drugs seized represent a combine street value of approximately $1200.00. Rideau, 27 years old, was taken into custody and booked for traffic violation, poss. w/intent to distribute schedule I drug, poss of w/intent to distribute schedule V drug, and proceeds derived from drug offenses. Rideau will go before a magistrate Monday morning.
