Opelousas Police responded late this morning to the scene of a crash involving two pedestrians, a parked vehicle and a tree.
Officers from the Opelousas Police Department (OPD) say they responded to a call at 11:36 a.m. in a parking lot in the 1700 block of Creswell Lane., where police issued traffic citations to Ramona Peterson of Opelousas, who is accused of careless operation and driving without a license when she is alleged to have backed her passenger car into two adult pedestrians, hit a parked vehicle, and then collided with a tree.
Sgt. Jody White says that officers interviewed witnesses and took a toxicology sample for analysis at the Acadiana Crime Lab. White says that additional charges are possible based on toxicology reports.
Paramedics from both St. Landry EMS and from Acadian Ambulance treated each of the pedestrians, one male and one female, who were struck by Peterson's vehicle. The female victim was treated for moderate injuries sustained to her hip and the male victim was treated for minor injuries.
Officers say the investigation remains open and ongoing.
