Dozier Elementary Flood Wall Complete In Vermilion Parish

In Vermilion Parish, the flood wall around Dozier Elementary is complete.

The school flooded for the first time during Rita and again for Ike. Flooding closed the school and many feared it would be shut down forever.

3.2 million dollars of state and federal dollars were used in the construction of the wall around the entire school. It is made of solid concrete and painted white, there is an automated pump station and doors that close when high water is detected.

FEMA tested the wall back in July and gave its stamp of approval. A FEMA study shows no impact to surrounding homes or the environment and says the school is protected now completely from storm surge.
