Although official numbers won't be released until next week, Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival organizers tell KATC that this year's festival--all Atchafalaya Basin traffic issues considered--still looks to equal last year's attendance and economic impact.
Angelique Bernard, the festival's publicity director, said that, despite the possibility that some festival goers may have given up or turned around because of traffic delays, the projected three-day attendance total is estimated to be between 34,000 to 35,000 people.
Bernard said that revelers at this year's festival appeared especially pleased with this year's musical lineup and that fans appeared especially eager for the festival to get underway this year.
"I spoke on Friday to one visitor from Iowa who waited three hours in line at the gate to open," Bernard recalled.
Bernard anticipates that the prospects for next year's festival are even greater.
"As long the weather cooperates and no accidents, I project that it will be even bigger next year," Bernard said.
