Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office (VPSO) investigators now confirm that funds did go missing from the town of Delcambre coffers.
VPSO spokesperson Maj. Darryl Leblanc tells KATC that investigators verify that an actual discrepancies of $17,000 and $18,000 were uncovered and that a full report has been transferred to the District Attorney's office for review.
"Whatever the DA finds is fine with me," said Delcambre Mayor Carol Broussard. "It's in the DA's hands now."
Deputies indicated that it's investigation was mostly aligned with the findings of the state legislative auditor's investigation. Leblanc said that some deposits had not been made as they should have been during the last two years.
VPSO said that an arrest has not been made at this point, but deputies were prepared to abide by the district attorney's recommendation.
"We are going to let the DA's office decide if they want to obtain a warrant, and if that's what they decide to do, that's what we'll do," Leblanc explained.
