The Delcambre Shrimp Festival has become one of the staples of the South's best in the AAA Southern Traveler magazine.
The AAA Southern Festival magazine named the festival a "Travel Treasure" in its July/August 2014 issue for its different shrimp preparation styles during the annual festival, and also for appealing to the AAA members. The festival also received a new certificate in honor of its new title.
The Delcambre Shrimp Festival celebrates the shrimping industry with several events such as a shrimp cookoff, queens' pageants, fais-do-do's, carnival rides, blessing of the shrimp fleet, food court, and so much more.
Festival goers can look forward to sample numerous types of cooked shrimp at the shrimp cookoff. Some of these include enjoying boiled shrimp, fried shrimp, grilled shrimp, shrimp sauce piquante, baked shrimp, bacon-wrapped shrimp and coconut shrimp, among others.
This year the festival will take place from August 13th-17rh. Admissions are free except on Friday and Saturday.
The entertainment lineup for this year includes DJ Homer Stelly on Wednesday and Thursday; Kyle Wooten, Frank Foster and Wayne Toups on Friday; Krossfyre, Beau Young, Jamie Bergeron and Tracy Lawrence on Saturday; and TK Hulin & Smoke with Willie T, Warren Storm and GG Shin on Sunday.
The editor/publisher of AAA Southern Traveler, Michael Right says, "We're pleased to add the Delcambre Shrimp Festival to the growing list of 'treasures' in our region." He also adds that, "Our members recognize the South has endless travel and recreational opportunities. We try to offer events like this to our readers to encourage more exploration of local sites and attractions."
The AAA Southern Traveler has a subscription of over 260,000 homes around Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. More than 70 percent of its readers prefer to vacation in the South.
