Dawn Morris has announced her candidacy for Lafayette Parish School Board, District 7, the position currently held by Mark Cockerham.
As a LPSB attorney for 14 years, Morris says she has extensive knowledge of state law and local school board policies. She said she feels the only way to provide fairness and consistency to all shareholders is to ensure adherence to the laws and policies governing the school system.
Morris adds that she believes that all stakeholders should have a voice in educational decisions that impact the community. She adds that the retention of quality teachers is vital to the success of a school district and its students. To retain quality teachers she feels that educators should be provided with the resources and programs that allow them to effectively do their jobs in the classroom.
Morris explained that she is a strong proponent of quality public education for all students. As a product of public schools and a parent of a child who attends a public school, Morris said she has a personal stake in the success of the Lafayette Parish School System.
