Ouachita Parish School District will no longer be required to seek approval from the U.S. District Court before making changes within the district.
In a ruling issued Tuesday, The News-Star reports the court officially declared the district "unitary."
Superintendent Bob Webber called the ruling "monumental" for Ouachita Parish after 47 years under a federal desegregation order.
The court noted that although Richwood High School and West Ouachita High School are both racially identifiable, each reflects the housing choices of citizens in those areas.
