Couple pleads guilty in fire department theft

Prosecutors say a St. Amant couple accused last year of stealing money from the St. Amant Volunteer Fire Department has pleaded guilty to theft counts after having paid restitution of more than $63,000.

The Advocate reports 34-year-old Aaron Lee Gautreaux, of St. Amant, pleaded guilty to one count of felony theft over $1,500.

Gautreaux received a five-year prison sentence that was deferred and placed on three years' supervised probation.

Gautreaux's wife, 35-year-old Melissa Pearson Gautreaux, pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of theft between $100 and $300.

The guilty pleas were entered Monday before state District Judge Jesse LeBlanc in Gonzales.
