St. Landry Parish councilman Wayne Ardoin says he will not put a measure banning cell phones on an upcoming agenda.
Previous reports stated that the council would debate such a measure at a future meeting after Ardoin raised the issue last week during a committee meeting. According to Ardoin, the discussion stemmed from a problem the council encountered at a previous meeting.
Ardoin says he won't place the item on the agenda because of opposition from other councilmen and parish president Bill Fontenot. However, Ardoin says there will still be consequences for those whose cell phones cause a nuisance during meetings.
"Several councilmen mentioned that they weren't in favor of the ban," Ardoin said.
"We're going to warn people and let it be known that if you cause a problem, you will be removed from the meeting."
