OPELOUSAS, La. (AP) - The St. Landry Parish Council will debate a measure to ban cellphones from its meetings later this month.
Should the measure pass, Parish President Bill Fontenot told The Daily World he will veto the measure.
The issue was raised at last week's Public Work and Finance Committee meetings by Councilman Wayne Ardoin.
He says officials ask those attending the meeting to silence their devices, but sometimes that doesn't happen.
Ardoin says cellphones are currently banned in the parish's courts and he doesn't see why the same rules shouldn't apply to the council's meetings.
