A Lafourche Parish councilman is questioning whether the parish should spend money on a public pool in Lockport.
Councilman Jerry Lafont says he plans to discuss the issue during Tuesday's council meeting.
The Courier reports Lafont objections come more than two months after the parish accepted land for the pool. The land was donated by Valentine Chemical Co. Lafont cast the sole vote against accepting the land at the June 25 meeting.
Lafont instead wants to put money toward a park closer to U.S. 90, something he contends would project a positive image of the parish to passing motorists on the busy highway.
If approved by the council, the pool and community center in Lockport will cost about $2 million. There's no design yet for the building.
