A 55-year-old Port Barre correctional officer with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office was arrested Tuesday; he's accused of introducing contraband material into the parish jail.
David Wayne Clark has been charged with introduction of contraband into a penal institution and malfeasance in office. He is currently being held at the St. Landry Parish Jail.
St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby J. Guidroz stated, "We received confidential information that Clark was smuggling in synthetic marijuana, cell phones and tobacco into the jail. During the investigation, Clark admitted to bringing contraband into the jail on at least three separate occasions."
"Contraband is an issue for every jail facility. I commend Warden Jesse Martin, the corrections supervisors and our narcotics officers for staying on top of this continuing issue," Guidroz added.
"When I hire a corrections officer I warn them up front.....'If you bring any type of contraband into this penal institution, I will fire you, arrest you and post your picture on the 6 o'clock news,' Guidroz stated.
The investigation into this incident is continuing and more arrest may be forthcoming.
