Coroner: Toddler killed by asphyxiation

MARRERO, La. (AP) - Authorities say the boyfriend of a Marrero woman has been arrested in the death of her 3-year-old son, Desmond Brown.
Col. John Fortunato, spokesman for the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office, says 34-year-old Timothy Reed was arrested Thursday and booked with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and attempted aggravated arson.
Fortunato says Reed was taken into custody at a motel in eastern New Orleans after investigators received a tip that he was hiding out there.
An autopsy concluded that Brown died of "homicidal asphyxiation."
The toddler's mother, Lakeshia Brown, found the boy's body Wednesday, partially covered by a pile of dirty clothes on the floor of their home.
