Approximately 1,500 people lost power on the southside of Lafayette Thursday afternoon when a vessel being moved down Ambassador Caffery Parkway struck a power line. Terry Huval, Director of the Lafayette Utilities System, says the vessel caught a low line and pulled it down causing the outage.
According to the moving company, an electrical contractor hire for the project was injured in the accident. According to police, the worker was shocked after the vessel struck the wire. However, officials say the worker was treated for his injuries and is back at work.
According to Huval, all but 100 LUS customers have had their power restored. He says the remaining customers should regain power by 2:00 P. M.
