A contractor linked to a federal investigation of an alleged bid-rigging scheme involving Orleans Parish Prison has died.
John Killeen's defense attorney, Vinny Mosca, confirmed Tuesday that his client died of pancreatic cancer in late April.
WWL-TV reports Killeen was preparing to plead guilty in a probe that already has resulted in guilty pleas by two former jail officials, Gerard Hoffman Jr. and John Sens.
Killeen was an electrical contractor referred to as "Businessman B" in court papers. He was accused of providing less than $10,000 worth of kickbacks to Hoffman and of providing free electrical work at Hoffman's home.
