BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Baton Rouge police say a contractor excavating a site found human remains that are possibly from the 1800s.
Police spokesman LJean McKneely says there were only a few bones recovered Monday at the site near the corner of Main and Fourth streets at about 11 a.m. But, he told The Advocate that an LSU professor called to the scene said the bones appear to be old and possibly dated as far back as sometime in the 19th Century.
McNeely says the professor also said she believes autopsies may have been performed at the site.
An investigation continues.
