A major road construction project is underway on Bonin Road. According to the Department of Transportation and Development, the goal of the project is to increase safety on one of Youngsville's major thoroughfares.
The plan is to have one lane of Bonin Road open for traffic traveling north from Highway 92 intersection to Windcreek Lane. On Chemin Metairie, one lane will be open for southbound traffic from Kirkwood to the Highway 92 intersection and Veteran's Memorial round-a-bout. Commuters are advised to plan trips in accordance with these new traffic patterns. Access to Ernest Gallet Elementary school from Chemin Metairie will be affected, with even longer delays expected.
Marcia Lamarche said, "This morning was a big problem, because first I came and this was closed off, and then I had to go all the way around to the other entrance on fortune and Bonin and they told me I had to come all the way back around here."
Beginning Wednesday, residents can expect the entrance onto Bonin road from Fortune Road to be closed; this will allow crews time to create a safer way to travel during construction. Drivers can, however, access their homes from the east side of Milton Road going north-bound.
The project is expected to last through August.
