City of Lafayette honors UL international graduates with keys to city

The city of Lafayette honored more than twenty University of Louisiana (UL) international graduates Friday at the Lafayette Economic Development Association office today, offering them keys to the city as ambassadors for Acadiana abroad.

The students, whose degrees will be conferred in tomorrow's commencement exercises at the Cajundome, were thanked by city officials for their decisions to attend the University of Louisiana and for their successful integration into the Lafayette community during the last several years. City leaders expressed the hope that these international students would tell others about the vast opportunities for study available at UL and within the city of Lafayette.

"It's an incredible feeling to be recognized and acknowledged by the city. I think the people in Lafayette are very friendly and very welcoming to people from other countries. I think it's a really great city to be in. I'd recommend it to any international student who wants to come to the U.S.," said Francis Savage, a graduating UL international student from Gambia.
