Four children were locked in a closet during a home invasion in Scott Monday night. Police said it happened at Acadian Acres Trailer Park, 1410 Westgate Road, around 7:30 p.m.
Scott Police are looking for two suspects, charged with breaking into a home, stealing a couple thousand dollars worth of electronics and locking four children in a closet while they made off with the stolen items.
Mother Aimee Bristow said she was out of the house for a few hours Monday evening and her four children, ages 8 to 15, were home alone.
"They were sitting there watching TV about 7:30 in the evening and two guys come barging into the house," said Bristow.
She said one of the suspects was wearing a ski mask and the other called for her oldest daughter by name. Bristow said the suspects rounded up the children in the living room and took their cell phones, all except the oldest who had hid hers.
"When they asked for the phones everyone gave their phone up, but she didn't, she said she didn't have a phone and that saved them in the end," accounted Bristow.
At that point, Bristow said the two men stole two laptops, an X-Box, Wii and games. She said they even stole meat out of their freezer. Before they left, the suspects barricaded the four children in a closet using an ironing board.
"They jammed it up against here (the door) and they shoved the kids into the closet," said Bristow.
After the coast was clear, she said the children managed to unhinge a vent in the door, push over the ironing board and escape. They immediately called 9-1-1.
"This is definitely an isolated incident. We feel that there's some particular suspects that we're looking at for obvious reasons. And the best part about it is no one was hurt and we had no property damage short of the items that were taken," said Scott Police Chief Chad Leger.
While there are no physical scars, Bristow said her family carries the emotional ones.
"They did hurt them, they traumatized my kids and I think they need to be found, they need to be punished severely," said Bristow.
The two suspects are white men, Bristow said one was wearing a ski mask and red bandana at the time of the burglary and they were carrying orange duffle bags. Anyone with information on the incident are asked to call Scott Police at (337) 233-3715.
