Charter backers organizing in Lafayette

LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - Organizers of the Lafayette Renaissance Academy have set up a board of trustees in preparation for an Oct. 11 community session about the proposed charter school.

The Daily Advertiser reports the Lafayette Charter Foundation hopes to partner with Charter Schools USA to set up the school. It would not be affiliated with Lafayette Charter High School, which is operated by the Lafayette Parish School System.

Enrollment would be open to all students in Lafayette Parish.

An application is due to the Lafayette Parish School Board by Oct. 19. If the board approves it, the organization would move ahead with finding a location, hiring a staff and enrolling students with the goal of opening during the 2014-15 academic year.
