After Hurricane Hunters had little luck in finding a closed circulation within Tropical Storm Chantal this afternoon, the National Hurricane Center downgraded this system to a tropical wave.
The remnants of Chantal produced heavy rainfall across Hispaniola Wednesday with the deep tropical moisture ear-marked for the Bahamas Thursday into Friday.
Tropical rain and heavy showers will be likely for Florida and portions of the SE U.S. this weekend with long-range computer models suggesting the remnant moisture from this system will get captured by an upper low that will move westward across the Gulf of Mexico next week.
If this does indeed occur, Acadiana may see increased rain chances mid-late next week.
The National Hurricane Center will continue to monitor the remnants of this system over the next several days for possible regeneration, but upper level winds appear to remain hostile for any robust development over the next several days.
