LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - Ceremonies are planned throughout the state next week as about 3,000 members of the Louisiana National Guard's 256th Infantry Brigade Combat Team prepare to deploy for duty in Iraq.
The main headquarters ceremony will take place at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 7, at Lafayette's Cajundome Convention Center.
The 256th is mobilizing in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
This will be the second deployment to Iraq for the 256th, after
service there in 2004-2005.
Those soldiers came home to a state ravaged by hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and many deploying this time are on their second tour in Iraq.
