Standing outside any building on Camp Shelby, Ms., it was obvious that local passers-by did not need to watch the NFC Division championship game to know the Saints scored, as “Who Dat” echoed throughout the installation from thousands of deploying Saints fans with the Louisiana National Guard’s 256th Infantry Brigade Combat Team.

The Soldiers, mobilized in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, were given a break from their rigorous training schedule on Sunday, Jan. 24, to watch their favorite team defeat the Minnesota Vikings for a chance to vie for the Super Bowl championship.

“It was exciting to be able to watch the game and to watch history in the making,” expressed Sgt. Shelley Landry of Lafayette, La., deploying with the 199th Garrison Command.  “It was awesome to feel the energy of everyone who was able to watch the game and witness how this football team has brought a re-birth to the city of New Orleans.”

The Soldiers from Tiger Brigade will be given the opportunity to watch the Super Bowl on Feb. 7, as the Saints play the Indianapolis Colts in Miami.  While the chance to watch the game will provide the Troops with a much needed break from their required training, celebrating a Saints Super Bowl victory will definitely give them a proper send-off for the year-long mobilization in support of the Global War on Terrorism.
