A 55-year-old California man has been sentenced to five years in prison after pleading no contest to vehicular homicide.
Lawrence Dale Riskas, of Foster City, Calif., pleaded no contest Tuesday to vehicular homicide, first-degree vehicular negligent injuring, and hit-and-run driving with serious bodily injury.
The crash happened July 28, 2008, on Interstate 55 near Hammond.
Riskas was attempting to pass Thomas Hudson when his right front bumper struck Hudson's rear bumper, causing Hudson to spin out of control and strike a concrete retainer wall.
Hudson was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.
