NEW ORLEANS - The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns football team was the unanimous choice to repeat as champions as the 2014 Sun Belt Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll was released on Saturday.
Louisiana, which finished 9-4 last season and clinched its second league title overall and its first since 2005, garnered all 11 first-place votes by the league's head coaches. Arkansas State was picked to finish second in the poll with South Alabama picked third, Troy fourth and ULM fifth.
Texas State was picked to finish sixth in the poll with league newcomers Appalachian State and Georgia Southern picked seventh and eighth, respectively. Idaho, Georgia State and New Mexico State rounded out the 11-team field.
Louisiana will open the season on Aug. 30 against Southern University at Cajun Field. The Ragin' Cajuns will host Louisiana Tech (Sept. 6), Georgia State (Oct. 4), Arkansas State (Oct. 21), South Alabama (Nov. 1) and Appalachian State (Nov. 22) during the season.
