Cajuns Golf Sit In Second At David Toms Invite

BATON ROUGE, La. - Freshman Fernando Cruz Valle continued his exceptional play this fall carding a score of three-under (141) to finish the first day of the David Toms Intercollegiate in a tie for second at the University Club.

Cruz Valle posted 11 birdies on the day including four straight in his first nine holes. Through seven rounds this season, Cruz Valle is averaging a score of 70.57 with 29 birdies.

Louisiana also finished the day in second place at eight-over par (584) as the Cajuns had three players find themselves in the top 25 after 36-holes.

"I am very proud of the guys," head coach Theo Sliman said. "For most of the day we stuck to our game plan and stayed very patient. We just didn't finish off the last six holes like we expected. All five of the guys fought hard and collectively contributed. We are only two thirds thru this event and we have a great opportunity to execute our philosophy tomorrow.

"This team's philosophy does not pertain to results. If we stay in the present, stick to our process and win the last six holes, I have a lot of confidence that the team will be coming home better players."

Southeastern Louisiana leads the field with a two-round score of six-under (570), paced by the individual leader Eamon Bradley who carded a score four-under through 36-holes.

Houston (+11, 587), LSU (+13, 589) and Kennesaw State (+14, 590) round out the top 5 teams.

Christian Verrougstraete and Haraldur Magnus join Cruz Valle in the top 25 as the pair sits in a tie for 18th at three-over (147).

Thomas Strandemo finished the day just outside of the top 25 in a tie for 27th at 5-over (149), while Ross Davis rounded out the scoring for the Ragin' Cajuns in tie for 46th at nine-over (153).

Play continues tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start. The Cajuns are paired with Southeastern La. and Houston for the final round. Live scoring is available on
