Cajuns Baseball Looks To Keep Streak Alive Against WKU

LAFAYETTE, La. - The top-ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns baseball team will look to keep its nation leading 14-game win streak alive this weekend as the Cajuns host Western Kentucky in a three-game conference series starting Friday at 6 p.m. at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field.

The series continues a nine-game homestand at the Tigue. Game two is scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m., while the series finale will start at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

Saturday's game will be televised on myKLA-TV with Don Allen making the call and Kevin Cantrelle providing color. The game can also be seen on ESPN3.com.

Louisiana (24-2, 6-0 Sun Belt) is hitting .324 during the win streak with 37 doubles, seven triples and 24 home runs. The Ragin' Cajuns have outscored opponents 137-32 over the 14-game stretch.

Jace Conrad has been lights out during the win streak hitting .442 (23-for-52) with four doubles, three home runs and 21 RBI.

The Cajuns leads the Sun Belt Conference in 12 offensive categories including average (.309), runs (207), RBI (191), triples (12), home runs (30), slugging (.505), on base percentage (.414) and stolen bases (45).

Centerfielder Seth Harrison leads the squad hitting .351 with six doubles, three triples, five home runs and 22 RBI, while Conrad is riding a 16-game on base streak and a team-leading 10-game hit streak. Conrad is hitting .340 on the year with a team-best 29 RBI.

Junior Caleb Adams has reached base in 20 straight games. Adams has posted 22 hits and 16 walks during the streak while scoring 21 runs and driving in 13.

Austin Robichaux will make the start on Friday for Louisiana with a 4-1 record and a 1.76 ERA in 46 innings. Robichaux ranked 10th in the nation in strikeouts coming into the week with 47.

Carson Baranik is slated to make the start on Saturday. Baranik is tied for eighth in the country in wins after posting a 5-0 record through six starts. Cody Boutte will make the start for the Ragin' Cajuns in the series finale on Sunday.

The Cajuns hold a 42-26 edge over the Hilltoppers including a 25-8 record at the Tigue. The home team has won the series in the last four meetings.

Louisiana is riding a 10-game win streak in conference play dating back to the 2013 season including a sweep of Georgia State and two sweeps of ULM.

WKU (13-12, 3-3 Sun Belt) has lost three in a row and four of its last five coming into the series. The Hilltoppers fell 5-3 to No. 10 Louisville in a midweek game this week after dropping two of three to Texas State last weekend.

Ryan Messex is one of two Hilltoppers hitting over .300 coming into the weekend with a .361 average and five RBI. Anderson Miller is second on the team hitting .301, while Scott Wilcox has a team-best 15 RBI.

Right-hander Justin Hageman is slated to make the start on Friday for WKU carrying a 1-1 record and a 2.12 ERA into the outing. Austin Clay (3-1, 3.82 ERA) will make the start on Saturday and Jake Thompson (2-1, 3.45 ERA) will take the bump on Sunday.

After the series with WKU, the Ragin' Cajuns close out their nine-game homestand on Tuesday at 6 p.m. as they host Tulane at the Tigue.
