Cajun Tennis Classic Coming to Lafayette This Fall

UL will host the Inaugural Cajun Tennis Classic this fall at the Ragin Cajun Tennis Center. This classic will be similar to the Lafayette Rolex Tennis Classic of the 1970's that was moved to Baton Rouge after Coach Jerry Simmons left to coach at LSU.

Simmons, who is now the director of the tournament, said he hopes to bring the old tennis tournament aspect back to Lafayette, but with a new flare.

"We brought back some of the older aspects of the original classics, along with the right fit of new blood. I think we will have the right mix," Simmons said.

The tournament will have 32 teams competing with eight nationally ranked college tennis teams including: #8 Texas, #9 Georgia, #12 Kentucky, #19 Mississippi State, #29 Oklahoma State, #46 LSU, #49 TCU and #61 UL.

The Classic will be held September 16 - 21.
