Bus Driver Talks Safety After Fatal Accident

One day after a deadly school bus accident students at Milton Elementary School are visiting with counselors and so is the driver of the bus involved.
Six year-old Lederion Miller died yesterday while getting on his bus heading to school.
Lafayette Parish School Bus driver, Keith Johnson, said "if a bus driver is not thinking about what happened he is not a human being."
He said six year-old Lederion Miller is heavy on his mind as he heads out on his route.
"You got a tragic accident like this and then you have to go about your business everyday," he said. "We carry 20,000 children in the morning and then again in the afternoon."
Parent Doris Johnson said she takes one of her children to school and the other rides the bus. She says she thinks buses are safe but sometimes the drivers are not.
"It could happen to me or it could happen to the school bus driver when things going to happen they going to happen," she said. "There's nothing they can do about it."
Sherry Whaley takes her five year-old grand daughter to school everyday. She's even shaken up.
Whaley said, "to begin with a six year is still very immature they are a baby. I think they need more supervision then they have putting them on and taking them off the buses."
"I would maybe feel the same way but we go through all type of tests and safety courses," Johnson said. "We are always dealing with this and it just so happened it was a tragedy that occurred and I hope I never see that again in my lifetime."
The driver involved in the accident has been a bus driver for 20 years. He isn't facing any charges at this time.
