Mayor Charles Langlinais dropped the Vieux Chene Golf Course Annexation lawsuit.
Broussard spokesperson Amy Jones says, "Mayor Langlinais dropped the lawsuit to make sure services will continue, and to move other issues between Lafayette and Broussard to mediation."
During a recent interview on News Talk 96-5 KPEL, Mayor Joey Durel said, "I make this offer to the leadership of Broussard, drop your lawsuit against our annexation, and all services will be restored immediately." Durel clarified his comments Thursday saying he's always meant for Broussard to drop "both" annexation lawsuits in exchange for LCG to reinstate services. The only service cut at this point is animal control.
The second lawsuit filed by Broussard is over the Plantation Oaks subdivion, which Lafayette annexed. Broussard challenged that annexation saying some residents want to stay in Broussard.
Langlinais says he dropped the lawsuit as a sign of "good faith" and asks Durel to show a similar sign, and agree to sit down with a mediator to resolve remaining disputes.
Jones says, "we want to get the issues resolved and then both the city of broussard and lafayette will be able to move forward as good neighbors."
