Broussard Drug Bust

Press Release:

Broussard, November 17, 2009: In a commitment from Broussard Police Chief Brannon Decou, the Broussard Police Department has continued its efforts to detour the flow of illegal drugs in and out of the City of Broussard.

Chief Decou reports that today (November 17, 2009) the Broussard Police Department stopped a vehicle on LA 182 at US 90 for not having any brake lights. The vehicle did not stop for the officer until a mile later. Once the vehicle stopped the driver exited the vehicle and then the passenger and owner of the vehicle, Alaric Jones 24 years old of Texas, exited and was ordered back in the vehicle, then he was detained for refusing to do so. The driver, Jalisa Collins 21 years old of New Iberia, was then told why she was being stopped and the officer could smell a strong odor of marijuana on both of their clothing. Consent to search was refused and a narcotics K-9 from Metro Narcotics responded to the scene and alerted on the vehicle. Subsequent search was conducted and 1 pound of marijuana, a loaded semi-auto handgun, and a scale was located in the vehicle. Both suspects were transported to LPCC and booked on Possession with intent to Distribute Marijuana and Possession of a Firearm in Presence of Narcotics. Alaric was also a convicted felon so he has an additional charge of Poss. Of a Firearm by a convicted Felon.

This is an ongoing effort by the Officers of the Broussard Police Department to rid the community of illicit drugs. Chief Decou stated that his department would continue to be diligent in training its Officers in all of the newest trends to assist in combating illegal drugs.
