The entire city of Abbeville went without water Thursday. The source of the problem is a broken water line.
Resident Bang Bui said, "its like a bomb went off and just blew up everything. Water was everywhere."
He woke up to a lake in his front yard on Dollie Marie St .
"It was almost up to my house, that's how bad it was," he explained. " This whole street was flooded."
All day Thursday city employees worked to slow down the leak...opening up hydrants and pumping water out of the flooded areas.
Director of Public Works Clay Menard, said "some people are directly impacted by not having any water and others in the surrounding area could be affected by having little water pressure.
Eaton Park Elementary is just a few blocks away. school was dismissed two hours early.
Principal Wendy Stute said, "the plumbing wasn't working in one of the hallways, so when we checked there was very little water pressure and the restroom facilities weren't working at all."
Parent Jarkata Grogan said his kids wont' mind the extra time off and he said he'd rather them be home if the school doesn't have water.
City officials aren't sure what caused the leak, but are asking residents to be patient while employees work to repair it.
As of now Eaton Park Elementary will still be open tomorrow. We'll keep you updated if anything changes.
